Rufina Rodriguez, Petra Arango, and Eloina Aranga Identified as Victims Killed in Oceanside Crash

OCEANSIDE, CA (February 7, 2019) – Rufina Rodriguez, Petra Arango, and Eloina Arango were identified by the medical examiner as the victims killed on Tuesday in a crash in Oceanside. The women had been traveling in a vehicle with three other members of their family when they died in a crash that happened where South Coast Highway and Oceanside Boulevard intersect.

Reports say that Rodriguez–74 years old and a resident of Oceanside—was the mother of Petra Arango, who was 40 years old and also from Oceanside, and of Eloina Arango, who was from Mexico. Four females from the family had been traveling in the back seat of their car when they were involved in a collision with a truck. Their car was hit broadside.

Respondents found that Rodriguez and Eloina Arango had died at the accident scene. Petra Arango and her daughter—who is 13 years old—were thrown from the car. Petra was transported to Tri-City Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased.

Firefighers found two men who had been traveling in the front seat of the car were trapped inside. Firefighters worked to extrciate the men, who were then transported to trauma centers. The injuries they suffered were described as moderately serious. They were identified as Aquilino Arango Ojeda, 82 years old and a resident of Fallbrook, and Rey David Velasco Herrera, 43 years old and a resident of Oceanside. According to Rick Davis, who is a sergeant, it looked like no one in the family had been wearing seat belts when the crash happened.

Reports say that police arrested the person who had been driving the truck—identified as Mason Fish, 19 years old—on suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance. He was booked on three counts of gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI resulting in bodily injury. Investigators believe that Fish ran through a red light.
