Driver Swerves to Miss Hitting Coyote, Strikes Utility Pole in Oceanside, Knocking Out Power
OCEANSIDE, CA (January 21, 2020) – A driver who swerved to miss striking a coyote crashed into a utility pole in Oceanside, knocking out power to over 900 customers. The January 20 incident occurred on El Camino Real close to San Gabriel Drive.
The time was roughly 3:05 a.m., according to Josh Morris. Morris is a sergeant with Oceanside Police.
Reports say a driver had been traveling on the road and swerved to miss striking a coyote. The vehicle struck a power pole, and rolled over, landing upside down.
Responders arrived and reports say no one was hurt in the crash. The driver was identified only as a man 36 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
Crews worked to restore power to roughly 905 customers, according to San Diego Gas & Electric.
Investigators are working on collecting information regarding the incident.
