Hit-and-run Driver Strikes Woman and Man, and Police Car on Ocean Beach Pier
OCEAN BEACH, CA (June 18, 2019) – A hit-and-run driver in Ocean Beach struck a woman and a man, injuring them in the morning on Tuesday, as well as damaging a police car. The June 18 incident occurred on Ocean Beach Pier.
The time was roughly 1:25 a.m., San Diego Police said.
Reports say the incident unfolded on Niagara Avenue in the 5000 block. The hit-and-run driver, described as a man, drove onto the pier and hit two pedestrians. The two people had been fishing, according to Joe Ruvido, who is a police sergeant.
An officer, who was in the vicinity, tried to stop the vehicle that hit the people. The driver, however, left the scene at a fast speed, smashing a police vehicle that was unoccupied.
Respondents arrived and attended to the victims who suffered injuries that were described as minor. The victims were identified only as a woman 24 years old, and a man 21 years old. The names and cities of residence of the two victims have not been reported.
A description reported of the suspect says he is a man who is Hispanic, about mid-20s in age. He has a heavy build, and has a beard. Reports say he was wearing a T-shirt, white in color. The vehicle he was driving was described as an Acura hatchback, black in color, year 2005. The windshield is cracked. The vehicle has custom wheels, and the suspension is lowered.
