NIPOMO, CA (July 11, 2019) – Jose Soto Gonzales was identified as the person who died in a crash in Nipomo on Monday, the California Highway Patrol says. The July 8 incident occurred on Pomeroy Road.
Reports say a vehicle—described as a small SUV—had been traveling on Pomeroy Road, and in an area close to Sandydale Drive where the road curves, the SUV went over the double yellow lines. The SUV struck the vehicle Gonzales had been in, hitting it head on.
Gonzales died at the accident site. He was 57 years old and a resident of Nipomo.
The person who had been driving the SUV was identified as Aleksandr Moiseyev, 28 years old and a resident of Aptos. Responders transported Moiseyev to a hospital. The injuries he suffered were described as major. His current condition is not known.
Authorities arrested Moiseyev on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Investigators are continuing their work on understanding the circumstances of the incident.
