Couple Killed and Their 3 Daughters Injured in Newport Beach Crash
NEWPORT BEACH, CA (December 10, 2020) – Gabriela Andrade and Henry Saldana-Mejia were identified by the coroner as the two people who were killed in a crash in Newport Beach on Tuesday. Their three small daughters were seriously injured in the December 8 incident, which occurred at Newport Coast Drive and South Pelican Hill Road.
The time was roughly 7:45 p.m., Heather Rangel said. Rangel is a spokesperson with Newport Beach Police.
The two parents and their girls had been traveling in a Nissan, when a vehicle–described as a Range Rover–collided with the Nissan.
Responders pronounced the two adults in the Nissan–Andrade and Saldana-Mejia–deceased at the crash site. Andrade was 28 years old. Saldana-Mejia was 27 years old. Saldana-Mejia was identified as the driver at the time of the crash.
Three little children–identified as a 1 year old, 4 years old, and 5 years old–were seriously injured in the crash, reports say, and taken to a hospital. Family members identified the relationship of the girls to the people who died as their mother and father.
The person who had been driving the Range Rover was transported to a hospital. Her identity has not been reported. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle when the crash occurred.
Reports say the driver of the Range Rover faces charges that could include DUI and murder.
Investigators are working on the incident. No details have been reported regarding the specifics of the collision.
