Newport Beach Crash at South Pelican Hill Road and Newport Coast Drive Kills Woman and Man
NEWPORT BEACH, CA (December 9, 2020) – Early in the evening on Tuesday in Newport Beach, two vehicles collided, killing a woman and a man. The December 8 crash occurred where Newport Coast Drive and South Pelican Hill Road are located.
The time was roughly 7:45 p.m., according to Heather Rangel. Rangel is a spokesperson with Newport Beach Police.
Two vehicles–described as a Range Rover and a Nissan–were involved in the crash, but the manner in which the collision occurred has not been described. The path of travel of each vehicle has not been reported.
Five people–identified only as a woman, a man, and three children–had been inside the Nissan.
One person–identified only as a woman–had been inside the Range Rover.
The woman and the man who had been in the Nissan died. The identities of the two people have not been reported.
It is not known if the children traveling in the Nissan were hurt. Their gender and ages have not been reported.
The person who had been driving the Range Rover stayed at the crash site and cooperated with the investigation. It is not known if she suffered injuries in the crash. Her identity, including name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.
Investigators are working to understand why the crash happened, and what circumstances or factors might have contributed. No other details have yet been reported.
