Man Driving At An Unsafe Speed Provokes Pursuit From Police
National City, CA (May15, 2023) – In the early hours of Friday morning, May 12, a 26 year old man named Cristian Santizo led police on a pursuit and tragically lost his life in a crash on National City Boulevard.
The incident unfolded shortly after midnight when a vigilant officer was traveling southbound on the boulevard. A vehicle whizzed past the officer at an alarming speed, prompting an immediate attempt to initiate a traffic stop. However, Santizo blatantly disregarded the officer’s signal and instead accelerated, trying to evade capture.
Mazda Auto Dealership Suffers Major Damage After Pursuit
With the officer in hot pursuit, Santizo continued his southward flight until he ultimately lost control of the vehicle in the 2800 block of National City Boulevard, near the vicinity of 28th Street.
The out-of-control car collided with multiple poles and parked vehicles, wreaking havoc at a Mazda auto dealership. Subsequently, it careened into the center divider, resulting in the ejection of Santizo onto the roadway.
First responders, including paramedics, swiftly arrived at the scene and diligently performed life-saving measures. However, their efforts proved futile, as the driver, who remains unidentified at this time, was pronounced dead at the scene.
National City Police Investigation Is Ongoing
The National City Police Department has taken charge of the investigation into this tragic incident. Their team of investigators will meticulously analyze the crash site, gather evidence, and piece together the events that led to the fatal outcome.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities will work towards unraveling the circumstances surrounding the driver’s decision to flee from law enforcement, shedding light on the underlying factors that contributed to this devastating conclusion.
The loss of life in this incident serves as a somber reminder of the risks associated with high-speed pursuits and the importance of ensuring the safety of all individuals on the road. The National City community mourns this untimely loss, and further updates on the investigation will be provided as they become available.
Why Should You Pullover For The Police Instead of Evading Them?
There are several important reasons why you should pull over for the police instead of evading them:
- Legal obligations: When a law enforcement officer signals for you to pull over, it is usually because they have a legitimate reason, such as a traffic violation or suspicion of a crime. Failing to stop when directed to do so is itself a violation of the law and can lead to serious consequences, including criminal charges and additional penalties.
- Safety: Pulling over when directed by the police is the safest course of action for everyone involved. If you attempt to evade the police, you increase the risk of accidents, endangering yourself, the officers, and innocent bystanders. High-speed chases can be extremely dangerous, leading to collisions and injuries.
- Cooperation and respect for authority: Pulling over and cooperating with law enforcement demonstrates respect for their authority and the legal system. It also allows the officers to effectively carry out their duties, whether it’s issuing a citation, resolving a traffic incident, or investigating a potential crime. By evading them, you can escalate the situation and make it more difficult for law enforcement to address the initial reason for the stop.
- Legal defense: If you believe that you have been unjustly pulled over or that your rights have been violated, it is generally better to cooperate, comply with the officer’s instructions, and raise any concerns through legal means afterward. Resisting arrest or evading the police can complicate your legal defense and potentially lead to additional charges.
- Building trust: By following the lawful instructions of the police, you contribute to building trust between the community and law enforcement. Positive interactions and respectful behavior can help foster better relationships, improving overall safety and cooperation.
It’s important to remember that if you have concerns about an encounter with law enforcement, you can file a complaint or seek legal advice through appropriate channels after the incident is resolved, rather than attempting to evade the police in the moment.
