Vehicle Crashes into Fire Hydrant on Euclid Avenue in National City; Water Gushes into Air
NATIONAL CITY, CA (March 23, 2020) – Late in the morning on Sunday, a vehicle that was traveling at a fast speed smashed into a fire hydrant in National City. The March 22 incident occurred on Euclid Avenue.
The time was roughly 11:30 a.m., National City Police said.
Reports say a vehicle—described only as an SUV—had been going at a fast speed on Euclid Avenue and, for reasons that are not known, it went out of the driver’s control. The vehicle smashed into a fire hydrant, and subsequently struck a fence, and electrical cover, and a trash can, according to police.
Reports say the driver was not hurt in the incident. His identity—including name, age, and city of residence—has not been reported.
No one else was hurt in the crash, reports say.
A number of residents in the area had water service interrupted for a time until repairs could be made. Crews were sent to the incident site to turn off the fire hydrant and restore water service.
Investigators are working on understanding the circumstances of the crash; they are collecting details and information in that effort.
