Andrew Balderas Dies in Motorcycle Accident in National City
NATIONAL CITY, CA (October 16, 2018) – Andrew Balderas, a 21-year-old resident of San Ysidro, died in a motorcycle accident Thursday morning in National City. The October 11 accident occurred on Mile of Cars Way in the 100 block, at Transportation Avenue.
The time was a little before 7:00 a.m., the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office said.
According to reports, Balderas had been heading east on a Yamaha motorcycle when a vehicle—described as a Toyota minivan—turned left into the path he was traveling.
Balderas hit the vehicle and the impact threw him onto the road. Not long after the accident, an emergency medical technician who was not on duty arrived at the accident scene and contacted 911. The EMT started CPR on the injured man.
Responders arrived and found that Balderas was not responsive. They took him to UCSD Medical Center, but doctors could not resuscitate him.
Jeffrey Meeks, a sergeant with the National City Police, said the driver stayed and the accident scene and cooperated with the investigation.
