Riding a motorcycle involves major risks when it comes to safety. When an accident is involved, motorcyclists especially have a higher risk of receiving personal injury or even become a fatal victim of the collision. When the other party involved in a motorcycle accident is a big vehicle, the chances for a rider receiving serious injury increases.

On Saturday morning, September 22, an unfortunate accident happened involving a motorcycle driver and a pickup truck. The incident happened at around 8:40 a.m. The driver of the motorcycle, a 56-year old male resident from Crystal Bale, was pronounced dead on the scene. The car collision happened on Highway 267 just near Mt. Watson Road.

The 56-year old motorcyclist was riding a 2012 Yamaha FZ1 motorcycle and going northbound. The traffic was slow and he decided to pass over the solid double yellow line and into the southbound side of Highway 267. Highway 267 is the main highway which connects Kings Beach with Northstar California and Truckee.

A 30-year old pickup driver who is from Citrus Heights was driving northbound in his 2004 Ford F-250 truck. The 30-year old then began to make a left turn into the Tahoe Rim Trail parking area which is when he collided into the motorcyclist. When the two vehicles crashed into each other, the motorcycle rider was ejected from his bike and thrown into the road where he died from impact. The pickup driver only suffered from minor injuries that involved cuts and scratches.

The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet which was confirmed by a California Highway Patrol officer. However, the extent of the male victim’s injuries is still unknown.

Traffic was slow on Highway 267 due to a Tough Mudder athletic endurance competition that was taking place near Northstar. An estimated 15,000 individuals were involved in the competition.

Motorcycle accidents are unfortunate and devastating. When riders collide with bigger and bulkier vehicles, their safety is compromised and personal injury usually results. Sadly for this motorcyclist, the pickup truck collided with him and ended his life.
