Homes and Vehicles Burn in Brush Fire at End of Police Pursuit in Moreno Valley
MORENO VALLEY, CA (August 16, 2019) – At the end of a police pursuit on Thursday afternoon in Moreno Valley, a brush fire ignited and burned nine vehicles, two houses, and three outbuildings. The August 15 fire, which began for reasons that are not known and burned approximately five acres, occurred in the vicinity of Phillis Avenue and Bay Avenue.
The time was roughly 4:00 p.m., CalFire said.
Reports say deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department had been pursuing a vehicle that was reported stolen. Two people were reported to have been detained by authorities, but it has not been reported how the arrest came about.
The person who had been driving the alleged stolen vehicle has not been identified, including name, age, gender, and city of residence. The other occupant of the vehicle has also not been identified. The suspected stolen vehicle has not been described.
Where the pursuit ended, a fire began to burn. It is not known why the fire erupted.
Two houses and three outbuildings burned, reports say, and nine vehicles burned. Some structures had major damage, and some were completely destroyed. The vehicles also had major damage or were destroyed completely.
