Teenager Killed by Hit-and-run Driver in Monterey Park While Skateboarding
MONTEREY PARK, CA (November 21, 2019) – Joshua Madrid was killed Monday night in Monterey Park by a hit-and-run driver while he rode a skateboard. The November 18 incident occurred where Newmark Avenue and Atlantic Boulevard intersect.
The time was roughly 9:20 p.m., according to Monterey Park Police.
Reports say Madrid had been crossing Atlantic Boulevard on his skateboard when a vehicle hit him. The driver did not stop to help Madrid, but fled the incident site.
Responders arrived and transported Madrid to the hospital. He died in the hospital from his injuries. Madrid was a resident of Monterey Park, 14 years old.
Investigators are searching for the vehicle that struck Madrid—which has not been described—and the suspected hit-and-run driver.
Investigators are also searching for people who may have witnessed the incident. Authorities have released photographs of vehicles that were in the area and may have contained people who saw what happened.
One of the vehicles was described as an SUV, dark in color. The other vehicle was described as a minivan, light in color or white.
