Car Strikes Skateboarder Chasing His Board in Mission Beach, Causing Serious Injuries
MISSION BEACH, CA (September 18, 2018) – A man riding a skateboard Sunday night on a Mission Beach street was hit by a car and seriously injured, according to the San Diego police.
The accident occurred on West Mission Bay Drive close to Quivera Road, Sgt. Edward Zwibel said. Zwibel is with the San Diego Police.
The time of the accident was roughly 8:40 p.m.
The victim, identified as a man 22 years old, suffered injuries that were described as life threatening. He may not survive.
According to reports, the skateboarder had been traveling on West Mission Bay Drive heading east at the time he went out of control on his board, police said.
The skateboard got away from him, reports say, and the rider chased after it, crossing two lanes of West Mission Bay Drive that head eastbound and into the lanes that head westbound. A vehicle, described as a Nissan Sentra, and the skateboarder crossed paths.
The car, driven by a man identified as a 25-year-old, hit the skateboarder. The victim suffered serious injuries. Responders transported him to a hospital.
The car’s driver stayed at the accident scene and cooperated with the police investigation.
