Los Angeles Man Killed in Hit-and-run Crash in Koreatown Area
LOS ANGELES, CA (March 7, 2022) – Early in the morning on Saturday in Los Angeles, a man on a scooter was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash. The man was later identified as Mario Ramos Morales.
The March 5 crash occurred in the area of Koreatown, where Olympic Boulevard and Western Avenue intersect.
The time was roughly 2:30 a.m., Los Angeles Police said.
According to authorities, a vehicle–described as a Dodge Caravan, blue in color–had been traveling on Western Avenue and going north. The Dodge struck Morales, who was riding a scooter.
The force of the crash knocked Morales to the ground. A second vehicle–which has not been described–was traveling southbound on Western Avenue. The second vehicle hit Morales while he was down on the ground and dragged him approximately 60 feet.
The person who was driving the second vehicle did not help the victim, or remain at the crash site.
Responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced Morales deceased at the crash site. He was 22 years old.
The person who was driving the Dodge stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. He was identified only as a resident of Los Angeles, 39 years old. His name has not been reported.
Investigators are searching for the hit-and-run driver, and the suspect's vehicle. If anyone has information about the crash, the person can call the Detective Section of the Los Angeles Police Department's West Traffic Division.
