It is bad enough when an individual gets into a car accident. It is even worse when this person gets in trouble with the law and runs away from the scene of the crime all in one day. For one suspect, stealing a car, getting into a car crash, and leaving the scene has caused him to get in trouble with the cops. It was one wrong-doing too many.

On Thursday, September 13, a Davis male resident carjacked a vehicle. Whatever his motives were are still unclear. What is clear though is that the car was reported stolen from the first block of Moraga Way. The owner claimed that a male figure knocked her down then stole her Honda Civic late at night around 12:40 a.m.

In another incident, about 10 minutes after the car burglary incident, a California Highway Patrol officer reported to the Contra Costa Sheriff’s dispatch that there had been an accident on the eastbound Highway 24 near Oak Hill Road. They also noted that the driver was seen running away from the Honda Civic which was on fire. It was then that the police officers confirmed that the vehicle on fire was a Honda Civic.

What related these two incidents was that one man, 27-year old Mark Dilley was associated with both cases. Policemen started to look for the man and found him at a shopping center on Mt. Diablo Road. The police arrested him and no further incidents transpired. The suspect was taken to John Muir Medical Center and was treated for his injuries which he acquired upon crashing the Honda. The owner of the car, an unnamed lady was also treated just for “precautionary” measure. Luckily no one had received any serious personal injuries.

After being treated, Dilley was taken to county jail where he was booked on five accounts. These charges involve carjacking, vehicle theft, drug possession, having a suspended license, and probation violation. His bail is set at $125,000.

It was fortunate that Dilley did not hurt anybody else when he was driving an automobile. Driving with a suspended license is a serious matter and should not be taken lightly. All the offenses that Dilley was involved him were bad enough on their own, combined it may land him an extended time in jail.

If you have been hurt in a car accident, make sure to call a personal injury attorney who can help you gain the compensation you deserve.
