Chula Vista Man Dies After Being Struck While Walking on I-5
CHULA VISTA, CA (May 17, 2021) – A man who was walking on I-5 early in the morning on Friday in Chula Vista was struck and killed. The May 14 incident occurred on the northbound side of the freeway, to the south of SR 54 and close to where E Street is located.
The time was roughly a little before 2:55 a.m., according to Sal Castro. Castro is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
Responders arrived and pronounced the person deceased at the crash site. He was identified only as 48 years old, and a resident of Fountain Valley. His name has not been reported.
The person who had been driving the vehicle–which has not been described–stayed at the crash site and cooperated with the investigators. The identity of the driver, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.
It is not known if the driver was hurt in the crash, nor if there were any passengers in the vehicle when the incident happened.
Investigators are working to understand why the pedestrian was walking on the freeway. They are continuing their efforts to collect details and information.
