Castaic Man Arrested For Fatal Hit-and-run Crash On Artesia Boulevard in Torrance

TORRANCE, CA (December 20, 2022) — A Castaic man was arrested nearly two months later after he left the scene of a Oct. 27 collision in Torrance, CA. Police arrested Patrick Carty, 52, of Castaic, CA and charged him with vehicular manslaughter.
Patrick Carty Fled The Scene of a Devastating Accident
Carty, a 52-year-old Castaic, CA resident, surrendered and was arrested, on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter on Monday, December 19th. The arrest came two months after the collision that killed a 78-year-old Torrance man, the Torrance Police Department reported.
On October 27th Carty was driving his 2005 Ford truck when he struck a pedestrian. He left the scene leaving his vehicle behind. Carty, was going west on Artesia Boulevard when it rear-ended a Black 2000 Toyota truck, causing the Ford to lose control and hit a pedestrian waking south of the 2700 block of Artesia Boulevard sidewalk, a police news release states.
The chain-reaction crash resulted in the Ford going up onto the sidewalk where he struck and killed 78-year-old Ralph Paccione of Torrance. A 44-year-old Gardena man driving the Toyota suffered injuries and was treated at a local hospital. Paccione was declared dead at the scene.
