Vehicle Hits Scooter and Restaurant in Silver Lake Area of Los Angeles, Killing One, Injuring Two
LOS ANGELES, CA (June 18, 2020) – On Wednesday morning, a vehicle struck a person riding a scooter and then smashed into a restaurant in Los Angeles’ Silver Lake area. The June 17 crash killed one person and injured two others on North Silver Lake Boulevard in the 1600 block.
The time was roughly 10:30 a.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
Reports say people who witnessed the incident recounted that a vehicle–described as an SUV–had been going at a fast speed. According to one person who saw the incident, the SUV had been traveling into the lanes of opposing traffic at a fast speed to pass other vehicles.
According to reports, witnesses said the SUV struck a scooter and the vehicle went out of the driver’s control. The SUV smashed into the L&E Oyster Bar and overturned.
Responders arrived and pronounced a victim deceased at the incident site. According to reports, witnesses said the victim had been the person who was riding the scooter. The identity of the person, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.
Responders took two patients to a hospital. The people were identified only as a woman 72 years old, and a man 52 years old. Their names have not been reported.
The two people suffered injuries that were described as serious. Their current condition is not known. It is not clear from reports where the two injured people had been prior to the crash.
The driver of the SUV has not been identified in reports, including name, age, gender, and city of residence.
Inspectors from L.A. County Building and Safety Department were assessing the structural soundness of the restaurant’s building. The owner of the building has not been identified.
Investigators are working on gathering information and details regarding the crash.
