Truck Crashes in Downtown Los Angeles; Erupts in Flames While Hanging Over Side of 10 Freeway
LOS ANGELES, CA (January 29, 2021) – Early in the morning on Friday, a big rig crashed on the 10 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles. It erupted in flames while hanging off the roadway in the January 29 incident.
The crash occurred on the eastbound side of the freeway, close to Santa Fe Avenue.
The time was roughly 3:36 a.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
According to Margaret Stewart, who is with the Los Angeles Fire Department, crews arrived on scene on S. Elwood Street in the 1300 block to respond to a rollover crash. Reports say the collision preceded the semi truck going partially off the road and hanging off the freeway.
The semi truck erupted in flames, close to a commercial property. Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.
According to Stewart, responders saw the tractor portion of the semi truck was slipping, and they blocked off a larger area.
The truck’s driver exited the crashed vehicle before responders came on site. According to Stewart, the driver was not hurt in the crash.
Reports say responders were examining two other people to see if they were hurt. It is not clear where the two people were when the crash occurred.
It is also not clear if another vehicle was involved in the crash. The reason for the crash is not known. Investigators are working to understand why it happened.
