Scooter Rider Struck and Killed by Driver Alleged of DUI in Hollywood
LOS ANGELES, CA (April 15, 2019) – A man who was riding a scooter early in the morning on Saturday in Hollywood was struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver. The April 13 accident occurred where Vine Street and Sunset Boulevard intersect.
The time was roughly 2:55 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Reports say a vehicle—described as a Dodge Ram—had been traveling southbound on Vine Street. The vehicle made a turn to the left to Sunset Boulevard and hit a man on a scooter. The man had been crossing the road within a crosswalk that is marked, according to Meghan Aguilar. Aguilar is a lieutenant with the Los Angeles Police Department.
Respondents transported the injured man to a hospital. He died from the injuries he suffered. He was identified as in his thirties. His name and city of residence have not yet been reported.
The driver was detained, according to Aguilar, by a sergeant with the Los Angeles Police Department who was already in the vicinity. The driver—identified as Jared Walter Anderson, 26 years old and a resident of Utah—was arrested and determined to be intoxicated.
Because the suspect driver had a DUI conviction in Utah in 2014, he is eligible, according to Aguilar, to face charges for murder for collisions involving DUI in which someone is killed, according to California law.
