Motorcycle Officer Struck and Injured in South Los Angeles Near USC Campus
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 1, 2019) – A collision in the morning on Tuesday injured a motorcycle officer in South Los Angeles. The April 30 accident occurred in the area of Exposition Park, at USC campus’ east end, according to Rosario Cervantes. Cervantes is an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department.
The time was roughly a little after 8:45 a.m.
Reports say the collision which involved an SUV, black in color occurred close to where West Exposition Boulevard and South Figueroa Street intersect. According to Cervantes, the motorcycle officer—who has not been identified—was knocked down in the collision. Respondents arrived and transported the injured officer to a hospital. The injuries the officer suffered have not been reported. According to Mike Lopez, who is an officer, the injured officer’s current condition is stable.
Reports say that James T. Butts, Jr., who is the mayor of Inglewood, may have been inside the SUV at the time of the accident. It is not known from reports if Butts had been driving the vehicle when the collision occurred. No one else was reported injured in the incident.
Investigators are continuing their examination of the details and information to understand the circumstances surrounding the crash, and the sequence of events that led to it.
