18-year-old Freshman From USC Killed in Collision on 110 Freeway in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, CA (August 26, 2019) – Early in the morning on Saturday, Matt Olson was killed in a crash on the 110 Freeway in Los Angeles. The August 24 incident occurred in the area of Exposition Park, close to Martin Luther King Boulevard, on the freeway’s southbound side.

The time was roughly 2:45 a.m., according to Stephan Brandt. Brandt is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.

Reports say Olson had been running on the Harbor Freeway, also known as the 110 Freeway, in the express lanes. Two vehicles hit Olson. The first vehicle was described as a Toyota. The driver of the vehicle—identified only as a man from Redondo Beach—stopped to help Olson, according to Officer B. Hernandez. The name of the driver has not been reported.

The second vehicle, which has not been described, hit Olson when he was down on the roadway. The driver of the second vehicle did not stop, but left the scene. Olson died at the accident site.

Olson was about to start as a freshman at USC. He was 18 years old, and a graduate of Corona del Mar High School in Newport Beach.

Investigators are continuing to gather information and details regarding the incident.
