Man Struck and Seriously Injured by Hit-and-run Driver in Westlake

LOS ANGELES, CA (April 15, 2019) – A man was struck and seriously injured Saturday night by a hit-and-run driver in Westlake. The April 13 accident occurred where Witmer Street and 3rd Street intersect.

The time was roughly 10:30 p.m., according to Moses Castillo. Castillo is a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department.

Reports say the man had been walking across the road when the light was red. Video from a camera in the area captured the incident. The pedestrian stopped and let a car go by him, and then another vehicle hit him. According to Castillo, the person driving the vehicle that struck the victim had a green light, but the driver did not stop and fled the scene.

Video footage captured a vehicle—possibly a Honda, gray or silver in color—striking the victim. Respondents arrived and transported the victim to a hospital. He suffered serious injuries, and his condition was described as stable, though it is critical. The man has not been identified. Authorities think he may be in his fifties.

A reward of $25,000 is offered by Los Angeles for information that leads to the capture and the conviction of drivers that hit and run, and cause injuries.
