Man Killed in Hit-and-run Crash on Foothill Blvd. in Tujunga Area of Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA (August 17, 2020) – Early in the morning on Monday, an elderly man was killed in a hit-and-run crash in the Tujunga neighborhood of Los Angeles. The August 17 incident occurred on Foothill Boulevard close to Pinewood Avenue.
The time was roughly 1:40 a.m., Brian Wendling said. Wendling is a captain with the Los Angeles Police Department.
A vehicle–described as a BMW–collided with another vehicle–described as a Hyundai Elantra. Wendling is reported to have said that the BMW had been going south at a fast speed when it hit the Hyundai.
The force of the collision shoved the Hyundai into traffic barriers. Wendling said a man, who was inside the Hyundai, was killed. The victim was identified only as in his 80s. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
The BMW’s driver fled the incident site. Roughly three hours later, he is reported to have turned himself in. Authorities took the person into custody. The person’s identity has not been reported.
Investigators are gathering information to understand the circumstances of the crash.
