Hit-and-run Big Rig Driver Kills Pedestrian on 7th Street in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 7, 2020) – A pedestrian was struck and killed early in the morning on Thursday in Los Angeles by a hit-and-run big rig driver. The May 7 incident occurred in the downtown area, on 7th Street close to South Alameda Street.
The time was roughly 2:00 a.m., according to Felix Padilla. Padilla is a detective with the Los Angeles Police.
Reports say the victim had been walking and pushing a shopping cart when a big rig, that was towing a trailer, struck him. The big rig driver did not stop, but continued to head west on 7th Street.
Responders arrived and pronounced the victim deceased at the incident site. He was identified only as in his 50 or 60s; his name has not been reported. According to Padilla, authorities believe the man was homeless; he was a regular presence in the area.
Investigators are collecting details and information regarding the crash. According to Padilla, they are working to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident, and if the driver left the scene on purpose, or did not know he had hit the man.
