Driver’s Car Struck by Metro Line Train in South Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA (March 5, 2020) – A person who drove onto Metro Line tracks in South Los Angeles on Tuesday morning was struck and injured by an oncoming train. The March 3 incident occurred in the area of Central-Alameda, close to where Long Beach Avenue and 55th Street intersect.
The time was roughly 10:55 a.m., according to Moses Castillo. Castillo is a detective with Los Angeles Police.
Reports say the incident was captured on video. In the video, a person drives a vehicle—described as a BMW—onto Metro Line tracks in front of an approaching train. The train smashes into the car, destroying it, reports say.
According to Castillo, the driver did not suffer serious injuries. He suffered injuries that were described as bruises and scrapes. The identity of the driver, including name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.
Reports say that only one of the gate arms at the intersection seemed to be down at the time of the crash, and the driver was able to go through onto the tracks.
Investigators are working to collect information and details to understand why the crash happened.
