Driver Hits and Leaves 13-year old Natalia Rodriguez Who was Walking to School in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA (September 9, 2019) – Natalia Rodriguez, who was on her way to school on Friday morning, was struck by a vehicle while she was in a marked cross walk in Los Angeles’ Pico-Union area. The driver involved is alleged to have apologized to her before leaving the scene of the September 6 incident.
The time was roughly 6:30 a.m., the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Reports say Rodriguez, who was identified as 13 years old, had been walking where Alvarado Street and Pico Boulevard intersect, within a crosswalk. A vehicle—described as a Jeep Grand Cherokee, gray in color—hit her.
The person driving is alleged to have struck Rodriguez two times before coming to a stop, exiting the Jeep, and apologizing to her. According to Moses Castillo, who is a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department, the driver stopped the Jeep, backed up, and hit Rodriguez after first hitting her. He is reported to have said he was sorry, re-entered his vehicle, and fled the scene.
According to police, the Jeep’s license plates were from another state, which is not known.
Rodriguez said that some time later, a man with his son stopped to help her and call authorities.
