Chain-reaction Collision on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles Kills One Person
LOS ANGELES, CA (July 30, 2019) – On Thursday night, a chain-reaction collision in the Fairfax neighborhood of Los Angeles killed a man. The August 1 incident occurred on Melrose Avenue close to where it intersects with Martel Avenue.
The time was roughly 10:30 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Reports say that a driver, who may have been speeding, struck another vehicle. The second vehicle may then have struck a man who had been on a scooter, according to police, though police later said that the scenario has not been confirmed.
The vehicles involved in the incident have not been described, and the driver of each vehicle—including the person’s name, age, gender, and city of residence—has not been identified.
It is not clear from reports where the man who died had been prior to being struck. Bystanders helped the injured man, who was lying on the street near a scooter, before responders arrived. Responders transported the victim to a hospital. He was pronounced deceased. The victim’s name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.
According to reports, a traffic signal was knocked down by one of the vehicles involved in the collision. It is not known if anyone else was hurt in the incident, nor if there had been any other person occupying either vehicle at the time of the crash.
