South Los Angeles Carjacking Suspect Crashes into Patrol Vehicle During Pursuit, Injuring Officer
LOS ANGELES, CA (April 12, 2021) – Early in the morning on Saturday in South Los Angeles, a carjacking suspect who was being pursued by officers struck a patrol vehicle. The April 10 crash–which occurred in the Vermont-Slauson area, near Budlong Avenue and 64th Street–injured a Los Angeles Police officer.
The time was roughly 2:00 a.m., according to Los Angeles Police.
A person who is suspected of carjacking was being pursued by officers. Within a few minutes of the beginning of the chase, the suspect was reported to have driven into a cul-de-sac, executed a U-turn, and smashed into the patrol vehicle.
Responders arrived and transported an officer to the hospital. The patient was reported to have suffered injuries that were described as minor. The officer has not been identified in reports.
Officers took the suspect into custody. Reports say the person was not hurt in the crash.
The identity of the suspect–including name, age, gender, and city of residence–has not been reported.
No details have been reported on the circumstances of the suspected carjacking.
Investigators are continuing their work on the incident.
