Car Strikes Mother and Her Children Standing on Sidewalk in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, CA (November 23, 2018) – Two children and their mother were struck and injured by a car as they were standing on a sidewalk in South Los Angeles on Thanksgiving afternoon. The November 22 accident occurred close to where Main Street and Gage Avenue intersect, according to Moses Castillo. Castillo is a Detective Supervisor with the Los Angeles Police Department.

The time was roughly 4:40 p.m.

Reports say the three victims had been on the sidewalk located on Gage Avenue’s southeast corner. The mother and two young children were ready to walk across the road when a vehicle—described as a Honda sedan—that was heading west, and an SUV that was traveling east, crashed in the intersection.

One of the vehicles involved in the collision was knocked to the sidewalk where it hit the woman and her child, aged two. Another child, aged 4 years old, was struck by debris from the wreck, officials said.

Respondents took the victims to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Their condition was described as stable. Castillo said the two people who had been driving the vehicles were taken to local hospitals. According to Castillo, driving under the influence was not a factor in the crash.

Investigators are examining the information and details to determine what caused the crash.
