The time was roughly around 8:00 a.m., Los Angeles Police said.
The person who had been initially driving the pickup truck–described as a Toyota Tacoma, white in color–was in the process of a making a delivery. On Wilshire Boulevard in the 900 block, a person approached the pickup’s driver and asked for a ride.
The owner of the pickup did not agree, and the suspect entered the pickup and locked it. The pickup truck’s owner attempted to reach the suspect by jumping into the truck’s bed and straining to reach the door.

The suspect traveled on Seventh Street, veering in and out of lanes and traveling on the wrong side of the road, according to people who witnessed the incident.
Near where Olive Street intersects, the suspect struck a person on a bicycle. The force of the impact sent the victim on the pickup truck’s hood and the suspect continued to drive.
The bicyclist dropped off the pickup close to Hill Street, roughly 150 feet away from the point of the initial collision, police said. Responders arrived to help, but the victim died at the scene.
He was identified by those who knew him as Branden Finley. Finley was 46 years old.
