Boy Hit and Killed by Vehicle on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA (March 11, 2020) – Early in the morning on Tuesday in South Los Angeles, a boy was struck by a vehicle while he was walking to school. The boy died from his injuries in the March 10 incident, which occurred in the neighborhood of South-Central, on East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in the 100 block.
The time was roughly 7:30 a.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
Reports say the boy was walkining within a crosswalk that is marked when a vehicle—described as an SUV—made a turn to the left and struck him, according to Moses Castillo. Castillo is a detective with the Los Angeles Police. The driver and the boy had each proceeded on lights that were green for them, reports say.
A Good Samaritan performed CPR on the boy until responders arrived, who also tried to help him. The boy died at the incident site. He was identified as Abraham Trejo, 12 years old.
According to reports, Abraham was within a half-block of his residence, walking to Animo Jefferson Charter Middle School, where he attended.
The person who had been driving the vehicle involved in the incident remained at the incident site and tried to help the boy, according to Castillo. The driver—who was identified as a woman 43 years old—had just taken her child to school. The woman’s name has not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work on understanding the circumstances of the incident.
