Ambulance and Car Collide in Los Angeles, Critically Injuring Woman

LOS ANGELES, CA (July 1, 2019) – A woman was critically injured Saturday night in Los Angeles in a collision between a car and an ambulance. The June 29 incident occurred where 223rd Street and Normandie Avenue intersect, in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Harbor Gateway.

The time was a little after 6:40 p.m., Margaret Stewart said. Stewart is a spokesperson with the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Reports say the Los Angeles Fire Department ambulance had been traveling on Normandie Avenue going northbound. A car, which has not been described, was traveling on 223rd Street going westbound, according to Melissa Podany. Podany is an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department. The two vehicles collided.

According to Podany, people who witnessed the incident said the ambulance was traveling with the green signal. It was moving at a speed described as normal, with no emergency indicators.

Responders worked to extricate the driver of the car—identified only as a woman—from the damaged car. They transported her to the hospital. The types of injuries she suffered have not been reported. Her condition was described as critical. Her identity, including name, age, and city of residence has not been reported.

According to reports, some firefighters suffered minor injuries. The identities of the victims have not been reported.

Investigators are continuing their search into the details of the incident.
