Man Killed in Bixby Knolls Area of Long Beach; Suspected DUI
Bixby Knolls, CA (April 7, 2023) – Long Beach police have arrested a man suspected of speeding and driving under the influence when he hit and killed a pedestrian in Bixby Knolls on Friday afternoon. The victim, whose identity is being withheld, was pronounced dead at a local hospital after being transported there with life-threatening injuries to his lower body.
The incident occurred around 3:13 p.m. in the 700 block of 45th Street, which is east of Atlantic Avenue. Witnesses reported seeing a speeding vehicle traveling eastbound on 45th Street when it struck the man, who was standing next to his parked car. The impact of the collision pinned the victim between the two vehicles before the speeding car continued eastbound and hit another parked vehicle.
Jose Trujillo of Long Beach Was Apprehended On Suspicion of Murder
The driver, identified as 42-year-old Jose Trujillo of Long Beach, fled the scene and made no attempt to check on the man’s well-being following the crash, according to a statement by the Long Beach Police Department. Trujillo was later found by police in the area of 56th Street and Rose Avenue and was arrested on suspicion of murder, driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury, and hit and run resulting in death or injury. His bail was set at $2 million.
