Woman Killed in Long Beach Collision; Five Others Injured
LONG BEACH, CA (June 10, 2019) – Rosalva Fierro was killed Friday night in a collision in Long Beach, when a vehicle struck her vehicle. The June 7 incident occurred where Orange Avenue and Del Amo Boulevard intersect.
The time was roughly a little before 10:30 p.m.
Reports say a vehicle—described as a pickup truck—struck Fierro’s SUV broadside. The pickup, according to authorities, tried to make it through the intersection before the light turned red.
Respondents arrived and found a female victim who was inside a vehicle described as a GMC Yukon. The victim was the driver. She died at the accident site. Authorities identified the victim as Rosalva Fierro, 49 years old and a resident of Long Beach.
The other vehicle—described as a Nissan Titan—contained five people consisting of four passengers and a driver. The passengers were identified as two boys and two men. The Long Beach Police Department said all the occupants of the Nissan were injured. Respondents transported the victims to hospitals in the area.
According to reports, investigators think the driver of the Nissan—identified as a man 20 years old and a resident of Long Beach—had attempted to speed up as the traffic signal was about to turn red. In the intersection, the Nissan hit an SUV, which had been traveling northbound on Orange, striking it broadside.
Authorities said all the people involved in the incident had been wearing seatbelts, with the exception of one person who had been inside the Nissan. The name of the Nissan driver has not been reported. The identities of the other occupants of the Nissan have also not been reported. It is not known what types of injuries the victims suffered, or their current condition.
Investigators are continuing their work to understand the circumstances of the crash. At this time, no other details are known.
