Multi-vehicle Crash on 405 Freeway in Long Beach Causes Damage
LONG BEACH, CA (August 21, 2019) – A multi-vehicle crash in the morning on Tuesday on the 405 Freeway caused damage and lane closures in the Long Beach area. The August 20 incident occurred on the southbound side of the freeway, where the connector is located to the 710 Freeway southbound.
The time was a little after 9:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say three vehicles, including a big rig, collided. No details are known regarding what led to the collision, what sequence was involved, and where each vehicle had been traveling prior to colliding.
It is not known where the two other vehicles—which have not been described—came to rest, but the big rig hit the wall of the center divider. Roughly 75 gallons of diesel fuel leaked from the truck onto the road surface. Pipes that the truck had been carrying spilled onto the freeway.
Responders from hazmat arrived to work on the leaked fuel. It is not known if anyone was hurt in the incident.
None of the drivers of the vehicles involved in the crash have been identified, including their names, ages, gender, and cities of residence. It is not known if anyone else had been an occupant of any of the vehicles that collided.
Investigators are continuing their work to understand the circumstances of the crash.
