Hit-and-run Driver Strikes Pedestrians in Long Beach; Woman Dies, Man Injured
LONG BEACH, CA (June 27, 2019) – Two pedestrians were struck by a hit-and-run driver in Long Beach late at night on Tuesday, killing a woman and critically injuring a man. The June 25 incident occurred where Burnett Street and Pacific Avenue intersect.
The time was roughly 11:55 p.m.
According to Long Beach Police, two people were walking across Pacific Avenue within a crosswalk that is marked. A vehicle—described as perhaps a four-door, white in color—that had been heading south on Pacific Avenue hit them.
A witness—identified in reports as Justin Kraut—said the two people were knocked airborne and traveled roughly 10 feet from the force of collision. The person who had been driving the vehicle continued on without stopping to brake or help the injured people.
Responders arrived and discovered the woman was not responsive. They transported her to a hospital in the area, where she was pronounced deceased. Her name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.
Responders also transported the injured man—identified as 35 years old, and a Wilmington resident—to a hospital. His condition was described as critical. The types of injuries he suffered have not been reported, nor his name.
Investigators are continuing their examination of the details of the incident, and their search for the vehicle and the driver involved.
