Child Walking in Crosswalk Hit by Taxi Driver in Lompoc
LOMPOC, CA (June 5, 2019) – A child who was walking a bicycle in a crosswalk in Lompoc in the morning on Tuesday was hit by a taxi driver. The June 4 incident occurred where E Street and Ocean Avenue intersect.
The time was roughly a little after 10:00 a.m.
Reports say the child had been in the crosswalk accompanied by his grandmother. The boy was hit by a taxi vehicle from a local company. According to reports, the boy’s injuries were not described as serious. It is not known from reports if the boy was taken to a hospital. The identities of the boy and the grandmother have not been reported.
According to police, the person who had been driving the taxi left the accident site. People who witnessed the incident followed the driver, reports say, and forced him to return to the scene of the accident.
Police arrested the taxi driver on suspicion of DUI and fleeing the scene of an accident. He was identified as Matthew J. Buell, a resident of Lompoc and 30 years of age.
