Lindsey Vonn had a knee injury stemming from her fall last week. She hurt her anterior-cruciate ligament and her medial-collateral ligament. She also broke a bone in her lower leg. The accident occurred during the super-G in Austria.

Dr. Bill Sterett performed the surgery in Colorado and he felt that it was successful. The four-time world champion skier will most likely make a full recovery. The success rate for ACL/MCL surgery is supposed to be pretty good. She will need to do a lot of work in physical rehabilitation, but it’s stated that she will return to skiing as quickly as possible.

This is the second incident that has impeded Vonn’s run this season as she had to take time off for an intestinal disease in November.
The accident involved her making a right-foot turn that arced her skis to the left while she tried a jump. Instead of holding her hands behind her torso, she held them in front of her chest and ended up landing with her right leg splayed and her knee hyperextended as she pitched forward. Her right ski came off and she finally stopped, and luckily right before the gate. She was airlifted to a hospital. Vonn has been prone to illness and accidents in the past, but nothing has really dampened her athletic spirit so far, so it’s a good bet to say that she’ll come back and be stronger than ever.
