Apple Valley Teenager Killed in Hit-and-run Crash
APPLE VALLEY, CA (October 21, 2021) – On Tuesday night, Lawrence Andrews–14 years old–was struck and killed in an Apple Valley hit-and-run crash. The October 19 crash occurred on Ottawa Road in an area between Manhasset Road and Navajo Road.
The time was roughly 8:11 p.m., authorities said.
Lawrence had been walking across the road with his step-mother and two other children. According to reports, Lawrence’s stepmother–Sarah Andrews–said the car was way down the street when they began crossing.
According to Andrews, reports say, the car began moving faster as it approached the family. She said she hardly had time to yank her younger child out of the path of the car.
Andrews said the car left the scene before Lawrence landed on the ground.
Responders from the Apple Valley Fire Department, Apple Valley Police, and American Medical Response arrived on scene to help.
Lawrence Andrews was killed in the crash. He was a football player at Apple Valley High school, and he had been coaching a football team his younger brother played in. The family was walking from the park in the area.
According to people who witnessed the crash, the vehicle was a two-door coupe, and light in color–either white or silver. The car was going over 60 miles per hour, witnesses are reported to have said.
Personnel from the Major Accident Investigative Team at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department are searching for the vehicle involved, which may be an Infinity G35 or a Nissan 350Z.
They are also searching for the suspect hit-and-run driver, who has not been described.
