Woman injured in Cambria Hit-and-run Crash on Highway 1
CAMBRIA, CA (September 28, 2021) – Early in the morning on Friday, a bicyclist was struck and injured by a hit-and-run driver in Cambria. The September 24 crash occurred on Highway 1 on the southbound side of the roadway, close to where Ardath Drive intersects.
The time was roughly 9:00 a.m., according to Jose Meza. Meza is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
According to people who witnessed the crash, a vehicle–described as a Lexus or Toyota sedan, black in color–had been traveling on Ardath Drive and heading east. Witness accounts said the vehicle turned to the right to enter the highway, and apparently the driver did not see the person on the bicycle who was coming toward the vehicle from the left.
The bicyclist and the vehicle collided. The person driving the vehicle fled the crash site without helping the bicyclist.
Responders transported the injured woman to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, located in San Luis Obispo. A friend of the victim identified her as Laura Lowe, resident of Morro Bay, 60 years old.
According to Lowe’s friend, she suffered injuries that include broken collarbones and ribs.
Investigators are searching for the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run crash, and the suspect driver. If anyone has information about the crash, the person can contact authorities at the California Highway Patrol Templeton office. The number is 805-434-1822.
