Train Strikes Vehicle Near West Avenue I in Lancaster; Two Killed
LANCASTER, CA (June 1, 2020) – Early in the morning on Friday, a train struck a vehicle in Lancaster, killing two people. The May 29 incident occurred close to where Sierra Highway and West Avenue I intersect.
The time was roughly 5:15 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Reports say a vehicle–described as an SUV–was hit by a Union Pacific Train. According to reports, investigators think the SUV had gone by the safety barrier and that the security arms were in the down position when the collision occurred.
Responders from the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived, and found that two victims died. The victims were identified only as men. Their names, ages, and cities of residence have not been reported.
Investigators are continuing the work of gathering details and information to understand the circumstances of the crash.
