Pregnant Woman Struck and Killed in Lancaster by DUI Hit-and-run Suspect
LANCASTER, CA (September 9, 2020) – On Monday night, a pregnant woman was struck and killed by a driver suspected of DUI and hit-and-run during a pursuit by authorities. The September 7 crash occurred where 10th Street West and AvenueJ-8 intersect.
The time was roughly 9:45 p.m., according to a report by a witness in the area.
The incident began, reports say, when deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department began to pursue a vehicle–described as a Dodge Ram pickup truck. According to reports, the person in the Dodge pickup had been driving in a reckless manner, and deputies began to pursue in the vicinity of 12th Street West and Avenue K.
The Sheriff’s Department is reported to have said that the pickup went some distance away from the pursuing deputies. The Dodge pickup made a turn to the left onto Avenue J-8, and at the intersection with 10th Street West, the Dodge pickup went through a light that was red.
The Dodge pickup collided with a vehicle–described as a Dodge Avenger sedan. The person who had been driving the pickup truck ran from the incident site.
Reports say video of the scene recorded the pickup truck lying on its side on the sidewalk. The sedan had also landed on the sidewalk, and rolled over.
Responders arrived and transported the pregnant woman to Antelope Valley Hospital. The woman and her unborn baby both died in the hospital.
The identity of the woman, including her name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.
