Lakeside Crash Victims Identified
LAKESIDE, CA (October 3, 2018) – The man and woman who died in a collision involving two vehicles on Thursday in Lakeside have been identified.
Authorities report that Gregorio David Hernandez, a 53 year old, and Ashley Olivia Kay, a 21 year old—both El Cajon residents—were the two people who were killed. The Honda sedan they had been traveling in was split in half in the crash, which also involved a Porsche SUV.
The September 27 collision occurred near Willow Road on Wildcat Canyon Road, at roughly 6:25 a.m., Travis Garrow said. Garrow is an officer with the California Highway Patrol. The accident site was a bit north of El Capitan High School.
Reports say the Honda was speeding, heading south on Wildcat Canyon Road. While Kay was driving, the Honda veered right and then veered left into the lane where the Porsche SUV was traveling north.
A collision occurred between the Honda and SUV, with the Honda’s passenger side struck. The force of the collision split the Honda in two, and threw Hernandez and Kay from the car, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Responders pronounced Hernandez deceased at the accident scene. Kay was transported by airlift to San Diego’s Sharp Memorial Hospital. She died there shortly after arriving.
The person who had been driving the SUV—identified as a woman 43 years old, who is a resident of Santee—suffered major injuries. Responders took her to Sharp Memorial Hospital.
