Collision in Lakeside Splits Car in Half; Two Die, One Person Seriously Injured

LAKESIDE, CA (September 28, 2018) – The force of a collision between two vehicles in Lakeside caused one of the cars to break in half, killed two people, and seriously injured another. The September 27 crash occurred on Wildcat Canyon Road close to Willow Road. The accident site was a bit north of El Capitan High School, Travis Garrow said. Garrow is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.

The time of the accident was roughly 6:25 a.m.

According to reports, a 1992 Honda sedan had been heading south on Wildcat Canyon Road and traveling at a fast speed. The Honda traveled toward the right of the road before the driver turned it toward the left and into the path of a vehicle—described as a Porsche SUV—traveling in the opposite direction.

The SUV and the Honda collided, with the SUV striking the Honda on the passenger side. The impact of the collision broke the Honda in half. The people who had been in the Honda— identified as a man 53 years old and a woman 21 years old, both residents of El Cajon—were thrown out of the car. CHP said they did not know which person had been driving the car.

Responders pronounced the man deceased at the accident scene. They took the woman to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego by airlift. She died later from her injuries.

Responders took the person who had been driving the Porsche—identified as a 43-year-old woman who is a resident of Santee—to Sharp Memorial Hospital. Garrow said she suffered major injuries.

Investigators are examining the details of the collision.
