Bicyclist is Impaled on Hook Attached to Pickup Truck in Lakeside
LAKESIDE, CA (March 10, 2021) – On Tuesday morning in Lakeside, a bicyclist was impaled on a large hook attached to a pickup truck. The March 9 incident occurred close to Mapleview Street, in a parking lot located on Maine Avenue.
The time was roughly 8:20 a.m., according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.
Reports say the bicyclist was attempting to avoid a vehicle–described as a garbage truck–and he traveled in front of a pickup truck. The pickup truck–described as a work truck–had an equipment rack with a hook on it.
The bicyclist became impaled on the hook, which went into his jaw and neck.
Firefighters from Lakeside responded to the scene, and worked to determine whether to cut the hook off the truck, or unhook the cyclist.
Responders ended up lifting the injured cyclist off of the hook, and he was transported to a hospital. The patient was identified as a man, 54 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
It is not known from reports who the work truck belongs to, or whether it was in motion when the incident occurred.
Investigators are working on the incident.
