Head-on Collision Kills 5-year-old Girl, Injures Others in Lake Los Angeles
LAKE LOS ANGELES, CA (October 9, 2019) – On Tuesday night in Lake Los Angeles, a head-on crash killed a girl and injured other victims. The October 8 incident occurred on Avenue O, near 165th Street and to the west of it.
The time was roughly 8:50 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say a vehicle—described as a Nissan Xterra—had been heading east when it went into the lane of opposing traffic and hit another vehicle—described as a Nissan Altima—head on.
A girl 5 years old who had been traveling in the Altima was killed. The person who had been driving the Altima—identified as Tijera Taylor, 26 years old—suffered injuries that were described as moderate. The other occupants of the Altima—identified as Kion Phylow, 27 years old; a girl 1 year old; and a boy 3 years old—also suffered injuries that were described as moderate.
The person who had been driving the Nissan Xterra—identified as George Kokoteev, 61 years old—suffered injuries that were described as major.
All persons involved in the incident were residents of Palmdale. Responders transported the injured people to Lancaster’s Antelope Valley Hospital.
Reports say authorities suspect DUI was a factor in the incident. Reports do not say if Kokoteev was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
