Two People Suffer Life-Threatening Injuries in I-8 Wrong-way Crash in La Mesa
LA MESA, CA (March 27, 2020) – Early in the morning on Thursday in La Mesa, a wrong-way crash on I-8 seriously injured two people. The March 26 incident occurred on the freeway’s eastbound side.
The time was roughly 12:00 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say a vehicle—described as a Ford SUV—was heading west on the side of the freeway that heads east. The Ford collided head-on with a BMW that had been traveling on the freeway.
Responders arrived and worked to free each driver from the wreckage of the two vehicles. According to reports, the Ford erupted in flames.
Responders transported the two people to Sharp Memorial Hospital; the injuries the patients suffered were described as life threatening. The current condition of each person has not been reported.
The person who had been driving the BMW was identified only as 45 years old. The name, gender, and city of residence of the person has not been reported.
The person who had been driving the SUV was identified only as 28 years old. The person’s name, gender, and city of residence has also not been reported.
Investigators are working on understanding what factors and circumstances contributed to the crash.
