Teen Motorcyclist Killed in Crash on Torrey Pines Road in La Jolla
LA JOLLA, CA (January 8, 2021) – Early in the afternoon on Thursday in La Jolla, a teenager riding a motorcycle crashed and was struck by a passing vehicle. The January 7 incident occurred close to La Jolla Shores Beach, on Torrey Pines Road in the 3200 block.
The time was roughly 1:15 p.m., San Diego Police said.
The rider had been northbound on the road when the motorcycle–described as a Honda sport bike–went out of his control. The motorcycle smashed into the wall that comprises the center divider.
The impact of the crash threw the motorcyclist to the opposite side of the road. A southbound vehicle–described as an Acura SUV–struck him, according to Tony Martinez. Martinez is a police officer.
The rider died at the scene of the crash. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
The person driving the vehicle has not been identified in reports. Investigators are continuing their work to understand the crash.
