Two Dead in Suspected DUI Crash at Belmont and Palm Avenues
Fresno, CA (January 6, 2024) – A suspected DUI crash claimed the lives of two people Monday evening, January 6, at the intersection of Belmont Avenue and Palm Avenue in central Fresno.
The collision occurred around 7:18 p.m., according to the Fresno Police Department. Authorities reported that 36-year-old Joal Campbell was driving a black pickup truck westbound on Belmont Avenue without its headlights on.
Joal Campbell Ran A Redlight And Then Collided With Another Pickup Truck
Campbell allegedly failed to stop at a red light and collided with a gold pickup truck traveling northbound on Palm Avenue. The impact caused the gold truck to overturn and come to rest at a nearby gas station.
Tragically, both the driver and passenger of the gold truck lost their lives in the crash. One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Their identities have not yet been released.
Joal Campbell Was Arrested At The Hospital Where He Was Bing Treated
Campbell sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital. He was later arrested on suspicion of felony DUI.
The Fresno Police Department is continuing its investigation into the incident.
